- As a neurodivergent child, school was not always easy. Fourth grade with Melinda Karshner felt like a new lease on life. Her genuine love of teaching showed in every lesson, and her energy filled the classroom. For the first time, I was truly met where I was as a student and given the support and accommodations I needed to succeed... ....Today I am in my last semester at college getting a degree in Environmental Science with a focus on policy. After earning my bachelors, I intend to continue on to law school and pursue a career in environmental policy. To find a teacher of her caliber is exceedingly rare. Teachers are meant to foster positive development, encourage further learning, and support students so that they are best set up for success. Melinda Karshner stands out to me as a formative teacher that did all of these and more every day I was in her class. I do believe that without exaggeration, she was an integral part of my success both as a student and as a person.
